The construction sector designs and builds new buildings and renovates existing ones. In addition to building construction, the sector also deals with the built environment, such as civil engineering. Civil engineering lays the foundation for the functioning of society by designing, building and maintaining infrastructure, including roads, bridges, tunnels, ports, water pipes, electricity lines, telecommunications networks and various ground structures. The construction industry develops and manufactures construction products and materials for the needs of the sector.
