Regional Economic Prospects

Regional Economic Prospects is a review of the current situation and short-term prospects of counties and subregions, created by the ELY Centres and other actors of regional development. Regional economic prospects are reviewed twice per year. The KEHA Centre prepares a national summary based on the regional assessments.

Regional economic prospects have been reviewed since 2006, and preparing the review is a key element of short-term regional anticipation. It is a qualitative assessment with a focus on the views of people working with regional and enterprise development. The qualitative assessment is supported by statistical data and regional surveys and barometers.

The assessment covers

  • business and entrepreneurship,
  • unemployment numbers and structure and
  • the availability of skilled labour.

Observations made are summarised in plus-minus estimates for each sub-region and region. The dates assessed are

  • the present compared to the situation one year ago,
  • six months from now, and
  • a year from now.
