Anticipation

The purpose of anticipating labour and skills needs is to anticipate the kinds of experts and skills that will be in demand throughout Finland or in different regions in the future.

For example, anticipation supports education providers, educational institutions, employment areas, municipalities, employers and various actors in the public sector in gaining a better understanding of future workforce and skills needs. Anticipation produces information on, for example, which industries it is worthwhile to train the workforce in or which industries should be targeted by public employment services.

Anticipation can be carried out with either short-term, medium-term or long-term objectives in mind. For example, from an education provider’s perspective, medium-term or long-term anticipation is key, while short-term anticipation is more important to meet the urgent needs of the labour market.

The anticipation of labour and skills needs is carried out by, for example, the KEHA Centre, ELY Centres, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish National Agency for Education and the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment's (SECLE).
