Job market Finland supports equal employment opportunities

International Women's Day is celebrated around the world on the eighth of March each year. Although roses sell well at the time, the purpose of the day is to turn our thoughts to gender equality and the elimination of discrimination against women.

When you think about the professions of engineer, midwife, or firefighter, what are the mental images that emerge?

Gender roles continue to affect educational choices and professional choices. At Job Market Finland we think of professions as simply professions – not as women's or men's professions.

At Job Market Finland we have adopted gender-neutral professional titles in job search profiles and job postings, for example:

  • Letter carrier (formerly postman)
  • Firefighter (formerly fireman)
  • Foreperson (formerly foreman)

In addition, our job search profiles are anonymous: they do not reveal the applicant's gender, age, place of residence, or appearance. Exactly: it is not possible to include a photograph in a job profile. If you wish, you may also hide parts of your educational background, or the name of an employer. In this way we want to help make it possible for everyone to get work from an equal footing.

Job Market Finland's job search profiles and job postings are places where skills and professions meet - not subconscious habits or assumptions. As a job seeker you will also be able to talk about your wishes for a job, and we will suggest jobs based on those wishes.  This also is a way we can encourage you to embark on a new career, if you wish, without prejudices.

Celebrate equality on Women's Day!
