Filling out a job applicant profile is now easier – Job Market can now extract competences from texts such as job applications or CVs

After the most recent service update on 28 April 2020, Job Market Finland has many new features. For job applicants, the most significant update is the Skills section of the job applicant profile: there is a new AI-based text recognition feature that helps describe and recognise applicants’ competence.

In practice, users can type or copy text from a document, such as a job application or CV, and enter it in the free text field of the job applicant profile. With one click, the AI identifies words describing skills and occupations in the text. The user then decides which skill and occupation words they want to include in their job applicant profile.

The AI-based recognition of skills and occupations is the first upgrade to the job applicant profile. During the autumn of 2020, the entire job applicant profile will be reformed in terms of structure, operation and appearance.

In the future, it will also be possible to add a short title for the job applicant profile that will be visible to employers browsing anonymous profiles. The title will allow the jobseeker to draw an employer's attention and stand out in a positive way.

Better visibility for vacancies

Another important upgrade for job applicants is a new way of displaying vacancies. The aim has been to make it easier and simpler to browse job advertisements by adding information in the browsing view.

In the future, users can choose whether they want to display vacancies in a card view or list view. Depending on the size of the device, the card view displays 1 to 3 cards side by side. In the list view, vacancies are displayed one below another, which may be a more convenient way to browse advertisements, especially on mobile devices

The card and list view are available for logged-in users to browse job suggestions and for users who have not logged in to browse job search results.

In the future, a short summary of each vacancy will be displayed where employers can summarise the most essential aspects of the vacancy. If no summary text has been included in the job advertisement, the beginning of the advertisement will be displayed as the summary. For job advertisements transferred from the TE Office’s vacancies service, employers can edit the summary texts in Job Market Finland.

Introducing entrepreneurial and commission-based vacancies

The most significant upgrade for job advertisements is that, in the future, entrepreneurial and commission-based vacancies can be advertised in Job Market Finland.

During the autumn of 2020, the submission of job advertisements will also be updated and streamlined. Most of the changes will not take place until autumn, but the current update will already bring small upgrades that make Job Market Finland easier to use. The most visible change is that filling out advertisements has been divided into stages to improve the user experience.
