Household as an employer

A private individual can act as an employer by hiring someone to perform work related to their household. The work can include, for example, cleaning, childcare, yard maintenance, or personal assistance. When you hire someone to work in your home, you are considered an employer - even if the work is only occasional or short-term.

As an employer, you have certain responsibilities, such as paying wages and handling tax matters. A private employer can often benefit from the household deduction, which allows you to reclaim part of the expenses through tax relief.

Employing someone in your household can be an easy way to get help with everyday tasks while directly providing employment. On the Job Market Finland, a household registered as an employer can post a job advertisement and receive assistance with recruitment by submitting a contact request to the employment authority.

How to Register

  1. You can register your household as an employer through the "My Job Path" section.

  2. Provide the requested information during the registration process.

  3. After registering, you’ll be directed to a page where you can change your role within the Job Market Finland.

  4. Select the role of “household employer” to access the Household Employer services, where you can post a job advertisement.
