Start applying for summer jobs at the very beginning of the year

News

The largest number of summer jobs are available in January-February, but vacancies will still be announced later in the spring. Now is the time to put your job search documents in order and start your job search for summer 2025.

There are many ways to apply for summer jobs.

  • You can familiarise yourself with open summer jobs at Job Market Finland and various job search websites.
  • You should also find out what kind of help your employment area offers for summer job searching.
  • In addition, there are customised employment models for summer jobs, such as the TTT summer internship (Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa).
  • By asking the companies in your region whether they need summer workers, you can find hidden jobs, i.e. jobs that are not advertised publicly.

When applying for summer jobs, you should be open to all kinds of tasks and send a large number of applications. The purpose of a summer job is for you to gain experience in working life and to earn money.

Updating your job search documents

Many employers ask summer job seekers to submit a job application and a CV.

  • In your application, write a brief description of yourself and why you are applying for the job in question.
  • In the CV, you will list your education, work experience and different skills, such as IT skills, driving licences, hygiene passport, and language skills. If you do not have much education or work experience, you should mention the skills and performances you have acquired through school, hobbies, or volunteering.

After submitting your application documents, you may be invited to a job interview. Job Market Finland offers tips on how to prepare for the interview.

Concluding a written employment contract is recommended

It is recommended that you sign a written employment contract for each employment relationship you have. A verbal employment contract is also binding, but it is advisable to make the contract in writing. The employment contract must include at least an agreement on the duration of the employment, the working hours, the pay, and a job description. After the employment ends, you should ask your employer for a certificate of employment. You can also receive a certificate of an ‘Earn as you learn’ traineeship.

If you are under the age of 30, you can get help with your summer job search from the One-Stop Guidance Center.
