News

Project provide vocational training pathways and promote access to skilled labour and increase the region's retention potential. It also provide guidance and support for learning for both young people and adults. The aim is to provide Kainuu Vocational College with individual study opportunities in a community-based learning environment in Suomussalmi.

Main sectors of the project

Enterprises and organizations in the municipalities of Suomussalmi, Puolanka, Hyrynsalmi. Recruitment needs are particularly high in the tourism, care, sanitation, trade, catering, early childhood education and industry sectors. Individual recruitment challenges include the construction and agricultural sectors.

Theme of the project

The Suomussalmi Skills Factory provides an opportunity to acquire skills that meet the needs of working life, which in turn helps employers to attract skilled workers. At present, the long distances from Suomussalmi to the nearest vocational schools pose challenges for the completion of vocational qualifications. The Suomussalmi Skills Factory project will provide more comprehensive study opportunities for people living in Suomussalmi and the surrounding area.  

Project participant

During the project, students will gain skills through practical work placements, either on a training or apprenticeship contract. After graduation or during their studies, students could find employment in a local company.
