The trend of the unemployment rate is 7.6%
The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 37,200 from December of last year. The number of new vacancies reported totalled 44,800.
At the end of December, the number of unemployed jobseekers totalled 297,600. This is 37,200 more than a year earlier and 33,400 more than in the previous month. These figures are from the Employment Bulletin of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
At the end of December, the number of people laid off was 49,800 persons; a year-on-year increase of 20,200.
The number of new vacancies reported during December totalled 44,800, or 27,900 fewer than in December the previous year. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies in December was 82,100, which is 47,400 fewer than a year ago.
