Official mail will primarily be delivered digitally starting at the beginning of next year

If you do not yet use Suomi.fi Messages, they will be activated automatically at the beginning of next year when you log in to any authority’s e-service. From then on, you will receive your official mail digitally.

After the turn of the year, no separate consent will be needed to use Suomi.fi Messages when using Suomi.fi Identification; you will automatically receive your official mail in Suomi.fi Messages.

If you do not wish to receive official mail digitally, despite using public authorities’ e-services, you can indicate this in the Suomi.fi Messages settings when you log in to an authority’s e-service. You can do this after Suomi.fi Messages have become available to you. After opting out, your official mail will be sent to you in paper form. Returning to paper mail is valid for six months at a time. If, after that period, you log in to the authorities’ e-services, Suomi.fi Messages will be reactivated. This will be clearly communicated during the login process, and enabling the service will also require actions from you.

If you do not use any public authority's e-services, your official mail will continue to be delivered in paper form. You may choose to activate Suomi.fi Messages later if you wish.

Changes related to the sending of official mail will take effect after the relevant legislation has entered into force.

The goal is that during 2026, official mail may also be directed to a private digital mail service, if so desired.
