The number of unemployed persons rose by 22,400 people compared to March last year. In total, 86,400 jobs were open in March, which is 20,000 fewer than a year ago.
At the end of March, there were a total of 342,800 unemployed job seekers, which is 22,400 more compared to a year earlier. The number of new unemployment spells started was 5,700 higher than a year ago.
A total of 25,100 people were laid off full-time in March, which is 1,900 fewer than a year ago and 3,200 fewer than in February this year.
There were 139,700 long-term unemployed in March, meaning individuals who have been unemployed jobseekers continuously for at least one year. The number is 24,700 higher than a year earlier.
During March, 42,000 new vacancies were reported to Työmarkkinatori, which is 4,900 fewer than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Only in the occupational group of specialists and managers the number of new vacancies increased compared to March last year. In turn, the largest decrease was most pronounced in the occupational group of service and sales workers.
