Unemployment increased in October, layoffs decreased

The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 28,500 people compared to October last year. In total, there were 54,800 job vacancies in October, 3,400 more than a year ago.
At the end of October, there were 313,600 unemployed jobseekers in total, which is 28,500 more than a year earlier. However, the number of new unemployment spells started was 2,700 fewer than a year ago.
In October, there were 17,000 fully laid-off individuals, which is 4,700 fewer than a year ago, but 1,900 more than in September. In total, there were 27,800 laid-off individuals (including those working reduced working week) across the country at the end of October, which is 4,500 fewer than a year earlier.
There were 132,600 long-term unemployed in October, meaning individuals who have been unemployed jobseekers continuously for at least one year. This is 31,600 more than a year ago.
During October, 31,400 new job vacancies were reported, which is 4,100 more than at the same time last year. Numerically, the largest increase was in the occupational group of Craft and related trades workers, where 8,300 new vacancies were reported – 3,600 (74 percent) more than in October last year.
At the end of October, 89,700 people were participating in services counted towards the activation rate, which is 20,400 fewer than a year earlier.
