An aircraft sheet metal worker is required to have a command of sheet metal working techniques, knowledge of materials and manual skills. The profession also requires the ability to use machinery, equipment and tools. Attention to detail is required when following work instructions.

In this profession, you need good hand-eye coordination. The job requires both initiative and cooperation. Language skills, especially English, are increasingly needed to understand technical explanations and work instructions in foreign languages.

The profession requires good physical fitness. The work is done standing, squatting, even lying down and crawling, and in other awkward positions.

In upper secondary vocational institutions, you can take the Vocational Qualification in Mechanical and Production Technology. In upper secondary vocational institutions, you can also take the Vocational Qualification in Aircraft Mechanics. The title of the qualification is aircraft line maintenance certifying technician. The vocational qualification can also be completed through an apprenticeship.

After gaining skills, a vocational qualification in production technology with a focus on sheet metal and welding technology and a specialised vocational qualification in production technology can be obtained. It is also possible to obtain a vocational qualification in aviation technology and a specialised vocational qualification in aviation technology.
