Rooting out prejudices and sharing information lowers the threshold for hiring persons with partial work ability

Established in autumn 2022, Työkanava Oy employs jobseekers who are in the most difficult position on the labour market due to partial work ability. Työkanava’s first employee found employment in the trade sector in January. Encouraging companies to hire more persons with partial work ability requires rooting out prejudices and sharing information more widely about employing persons with partial work ability.

The first person with partial work ability who was employed through Työkanava Oy uses sign language. The new job involves versatile tasks related to the upkeep of a Tokmanni department store.

Before starting at the job, the Työkanava employee and a service manager visited Tokmanni to learn more about the work duties Tokmanni had assigned. This ensured that the duties were suitable for the employee, enabling a successful work experience. Tokmanni has worked with Työkanava service managers to tailor the work duties for the employee, and members of the work community have also learned new ways of working. These measures have ensured that the new employment relationship has started on a good note.

Tokmanni believes that the threshold for hiring persons with partial work ability will be lowered by rooting out prejudices and sharing even more information on employing persons with partial work ability. Tokmanni Store Manger Marika Pöntinen sends her regards to companies who are thinking about employing people with partial work ability.

– I recommend it – you can always use another pair of hands. You have to give everyone a chance.
