A vehicle inspector needs specialized expertise in automotive technology. The profession requires knowledge of the laws, regulations, and rules related to vehicle inspections, as well as the ability to operate various types of inspection equipment. Skills in information technology and the use of information systems are also necessary.

Inspection work demands precision, thoroughness, and a strong sense of responsibility. Good customer service skills are essential. The profession requires both the ability to work independently and good collaboration skills. Language skills are considered an asset.

The inspector must be familiar with the quality standards of their workplace. Occupational safety must also be ensured. Inspectors are required to participate in regular continuing education.

At universities of applied sciences, it is possible to complete a Bachelor of Engineering degree (UAS) in either automotive technology or mechanical engineering.

As basic training, a vehicle inspector may also hold a relevant specialist vocational qualification or a vocational qualification suitable for inspection work, such as a specialist vocational qualification in the automotive sector (in the competence areas of workshop services, body repair, or automotive management), or a vocational qualification in the automotive sector (in the competence areas of workshop services or body repair). A basic vocational qualification in the automotive field (automotive mechanic) is not in itself sufficient for inspection duties.

As continuing education, vehicle inspectors are required to complete training focused on vehicle inspections and the inspection field, corresponding to the scope of their duties.

An inspector is required to have basic education and further education. Further education consists of periodic inspection training and related training, special training and periodic continuing professional education.

In addition, an inspector is required to have suitable vehicle workshop experience or similar experience, as well as practical experience in vehicle inspection tasks related to further education.
