What’s new in the Vantaa employment area?

  • News

On 1 January 2025, employment and business services were transferred from central government to employment areas formed by municipalities. The reform created 45 employment areas in Finland. In this news item, we describe how the reform has affected the Vantaa employment area.

Activities in the new employment area have got off to a lively start. Despite all the changes, customers have commended the well-running and straightforward services.

- Despite suddenly having more customers, it’s been great to see that we have been able to manage customer service and that our personnel are committed to solving any challenges they face, says Director of Employment and Integration Services Susanna Taipale-Vuorinen.

One service that has proven especially useful is the multilingual advice service operating at the same office as employment services.

- People living Vantaa speak a wide range of languages, and meeting their needs in their own language lowers the threshold of accessing services and improves the service experience significantly, Susanna Taipale-Vuorinen continues.

Transition into an employment area has gone well

Vantaa was a part of the local government pilot, which proved very useful when it was time to start operations as an employment area. Thanks to the pilot, most of the services were already ready at the turn of the year, making it possible to get started right at the beginning of the year.

- We were able to identify any pitfalls in advance and avoid them as best we could. We started offering services without a hitch straight away on 1 January, says Employment Manager Marjo Nurminen.

Like in many other employment areas, one challenge has been the scant amount of appropriations for pay subsidies. Still, positive experiences have outweighed the negative. Cooperation networks have grown stronger, and there has been an emphasis on focusing on the customer.

- We have especially received positive feedback on the joint telephone service for employers in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, and customer satisfaction has been excellent – which goes to show that we have managed to respond to employers’ needs, says Marjo Nurminen.

Susanna Taipale-Vuorinen would also like to thank customers for their patience.

- I want to thank our customers for their patience and the feedback we have received, which will help us further improve our services. This is a great place to continue building even more impactful and customer-oriented employment services in our region.
