Nearly 100 young people have found employment in the Tampere region with the help of the Youth recruitment subsidy

The Youth recruitment subsidy became available to employers in the Tampere Region Employment Area in March 2026. The subsidy is funded by the Finnish government and allocated to employment areas to support the employment of young people.

Eligibility criteria for the Youth recruitment subsidy were eased in the summer

The eligibility criteria for the Youth recruitment subsidy were eased in July to enable more employers to benefit from the support. The subsidy is now available not only to companies but also to associations and foundations. In addition, the minimum length of employment required was reduced from six months to three months. At the same time, the requirement for a minimum period of unemployment before employment was removed. The subsidy can now be granted as long as the person being hired is registered as a job seeker in the Tampere Region Employment Area, regardless of how long they have been seeking work. Employers can be located anywhere in Finland.

The subsidy has been utilised across many sectors

Young people have found employment through the subsidy particularly in the manufacturing and technology sectors, service and hospitality industries, construction, sales and marketing, as well as logistics and transportation.

– The Youth recruitment subsidy has helped young people find employment in a wide range of roles, from entry-level positions to specialist roles requiring a university degree, says Lilli Tolvila, Senior Specialist at the Employment and Growth Services of the City of Tampere.

The subsidy creates benefits for both employers and young job seekers. Employers can recruit new talent, while young people gain experience, expand their networks and take meaningful steps towards working life.

– The earlier a young person gains a foothold in working life, the better their chances of building a sustainable career. The Youth recruitment subsidy helps open doors that can lead to long-term employment or even an entirely new career path, says Tolvila.

The subsidy is still available

At present, the subsidy can be paid until the end of June 2027. The employment area encourages employers to make use of the subsidy in their future recruitment processes.

– I encourage employers to take advantage of the Youth recruitment subsidy. We have seen the subsidy lead to successful recruitments across a wide range of sectors, while giving young people a valuable opportunity to gain a foothold in working life, Tolvila concludes.
