Ship’s purser
Pursers are responsible for tasks related to passenger service, comfort, and communication on board a ship. Pursers work on passenger ships. Customer service work requires a service-minded approach, flexibility, and good language skills.
As pursers work in customer service, they must be customer-oriented and have good language skills. Pursers often have the main responsibility for communication, so the profession requires strong spoken and written communication skills. Pursers are required to have strong language skills.
Due to overlapping tasks, the job requires flexibility, a systematic approach, and multitasking, as well as the ability to focus on the tasks at hand despite the rush. Pursers must be able to operate independently, but also in cooperation with others.
Working on board a ship requires adaptation to a small work community, where people must get along both at work and in their free time while at sea. Due to long periods of work, good physical and mental health is needed.

There is no actual training for purser's profession. A background in tourism or in the restaurant and catering sector is considered an asset when appointing a purser.
Persons working on board vessels are required to complete safety training required by international maritime regulations.
