A marketing manager must have a good knowledge of the company’s sector, products and customers. The profession requires competence in marketing, creativity, brainstorming skills and the ability to analyse the feasibility of implementing ideas. Good oral and written presentation skills are essential.

Cooperation and management skills are needed in the profession. A marketing manager is required to take initiative and to have an independent approach to work.  The profession requires economic thinking and decision-making skills. Language proficiency and knowledge of cultures are requirements particularly for those working in international tasks. The profession also often requires good pressure tolerance.

A marketing manager often has a degree in the field of business. Educational requirements vary greatly depending on the size and sector of the company. A marketing manager may also have a degree related to the company’s line of business and further training related to marketing and advertising. 

You can study economics and business administration at universities. The master’s degree is Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration). The bachelor’s degree is Bachelor of Science (Economics and Business Administration). At universities of applied sciences, you can complete the Bachelor of Business Administration degree. You can complete the Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration in upper secondary vocational institutions. After gaining more competence, it is also possible to complete the Further Vocational Qualification and Specialist Vocational Qualification in Business. An upper secondary vocational qualification can also be completed through an apprenticeship.
