Briefly explain what you do for a living.

I work as an entrepreneur and nail technician in Turku. I create nail extensions and offer gel varnishes and nail enhancements, including IBX treatments, which help strengthen damaged or weak nails.

How have you ended up in the profession of your choice?

I have been passionate about polishing my nails since I was young. I began practising nail extensions over a decade ago. A few years down the line, I set up my own business and sought training in this field.

Describe your typical working day or week.

My typical working day consists of 3 to 6 appointments with customers, during which I might, for example, put on new nail extensions or apply gel polish. I clean my workstation and tools between the appointments.

What kind of work environment or working hours do you have?

I serve customers in a business setting that offers the expertise of two hair stylists and massage treatments in addition to my own services. I usually work from 12:00 to 19:00, but I can adjust my hours if needed.

What kind of competence or qualities are required in the profession?

In order to work responsibly as a nail technician, it is advisable to gain competence through basic training. You can also complete additional training in nail decoration or nail technology. It is important to continuously maintain your competence and keep learning new skills.

What is the best thing about your profession?

The best part of being a nail technician is when customers are satisfied and enjoy having beautiful, well-treated nails. I also love the creative aspect of the profession.

What are the downsides of the profession or what seems challenging?

At the moment, it is difficult to attract customers as the competition is tough. Working in an awkward position for extended periods can make it difficult to maintain proper ergonomics.

What would you tell a person considering the profession of a nail technician?

I recommend getting proper training before starting work. Be yourself, put your heart into your work, and avoid comparing yourself to others.

How do you see the future of your profession?

It is difficult to predict the future, but I believe that continuous learning is essential for anyone wanting to work in nail design.
