Aircraft loaders are responsible for loading and unloading aircraft on the airport apron. The tasks also include other phases of the aircraft turnaround process, such as driving stairs and operating other ground support equipment. Aircraft loaders work for air airline service companies. The job requires good physical fitness, adaptability to shift work and the ability to work in demanding weather conditions.

Once the aircraft has landed, the aircraft loaders are responsible for unloading and transporting the baggage loaded in the hold to the baggage hall, which requires good physical fitness and the ability to drive the vehicles used for loading. English language skills are required as the job is based in an international working environment. Loading is largely a team effort, which requires teamwork skills. The job requires knowledge of aviation safety regulations.

In addition to loading baggage, aircraft loaders may handle cargo, as well as other ground handling support activities that require precision and care. An aircraft loader may also specialise in de-icing, which requires knowledge of the machinery and equipment used.

The work of an aircraft loader requires initiative and reliability. Good pressure tolerance is necessary, as loading work is carried out according to air traffic schedules. Good health and adaptability to shift work are prerequisites for working in the profession.

Training is provided by loading companies. You can complete the Vocational Qualification in Logistics in upper secondary vocational institutions. The qualification can also be completed through an apprenticeship.

A B-driving licence is necessary to carry out many tasks. A C-driving licence is required for drivers of certain types of vehicles.
