Automation assemblers can perform tasks related to the assembly, installation, operation, maintenance and servicing of industrial electrical machinery and equipment and automation systems in compliance with the standards and regulations concerning electrical installations. Their core competence includes knowledge of different adjustment, discrete and control room systems, robotics and a command of tasks related to their installation and maintenance.
The profession requires the ability to read automation drawings and being familiar with the valid regulations and instructions. The work requires knowledge of and compliance with electrical safety regulations.
The automation sector requires long-term thinking, logical reasoning, basic mathematics and problem-solving skills. The profession requires working both independently and as a member of a group. Foreign language skills are particularly necessary because technical instructions are often in English, for example.
In upper secondary vocational institutions, you can complete the Vocational Qualification in Electrical Engineering and Automation Technology. The qualification title is either automation assembler or electrician. The vocational qualification can also be completed through apprenticeship training.
After gaining more professional experience, it is also possible to complete the Further Vocational Qualification and Specialist Vocational Qualification in Electrical Engineering and Automation Technology. In upper secondary vocational institutions, you can also complete the Vocational Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology in the Competence Area of Assembly and Automation. The qualification title is automation assembler.
According to the regulations in the electrical safety sector, only persons with sufficient professional skills may carry out electrical and operational work in their own field independently. The person in charge of the electrical safety sector (head of electrical work or head of operation) must have a certificate of competence covering the area of operation. The certificate of competency is issued to a person with adequate electrical training, work experience and a completed electrical safety degree.
