An edger is a metalworker who uses a press to fold metal parts into desired shapes. Edging can be either partly or completely computerised. Jobs are in the metal industry. The profession requires technical competence, precision and the ability to read technical drawings.

Edgers have to be familiar and comply with all safety regulations, as there is a risk of accidents with edging machines. Edgers have to be able to picture three-dimensional shapes. The work requires good hand-eye coordination, precision and a careful approach.
Edgers often do other tasks in addition to edging; welding is one useful additional skill. Teamwork skills are also necessary. The work is often in shifts.
Employers often train edgers for the task. At the upper secondary level, options include a vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or production technology.
