Train driver
Train drivers drive passenger and freight trains and do organisation work at railway yards. Train drivers work for railway companies. In addition to the professional skills of a train driver, the work requires responsibility, an independent approach to work, the ability to do several things simultaneously, attentiveness and good health.

A train driver must know how to drive a train and be familiar with the rolling stock and trackside equipment technology. The profession requires responsibility because the work involves dealing with passenger and traffic safety. A train driver must master matters related to train safety concerning train traffic and railway yard work. Basic information technology competence is also needed in the work.
A train driver must be able to do many things at the same time. In addition to driving the train, they must constantly register information from different sources and do traffic-related assessment and forecasting. A driver must be able to make independent decisions, especially in case of faults and exceptional situations where rapid reaction is also often necessary. A train driver drives alone, so they must adapt to working alone, especially on long journeys. Drivers are also required to have good communication and cooperation skills.
The work requires precise senses, of which vision, colour vision and hearing in particular must meet the set requirements. Irregular shift work requires adaptability and flexibility from drivers. They also must be able to handle stress.
Train drivers are trained by Kouvola Railway and Adult Education Company (KRAO).
